St John’s is part of the Church of England and broadly evangelical in style. We value the best of the old and the best of the new.
So the Victorian worship area is complemented by a modern area for meetings and coffee; we sing rousing hymns alongside modern songs; and we concern ourselves with both the heritage of Scripture and the needs of the world today.
Some events in life are so significant that they just have to be commemorated – like the arrival of a new child, a couple declaring their commitment to each other, or remembering a loved one who has died. At St John’s we regularly welcome gatherings of people as they mark these life events.
“Praise Him on the sound of the clarinet, violin, drums, tambourine, guitar, piano, clavinova and organ”
these are the current instruments that we have in our band to accompany the wide range of hymns and songs which we use in our worship each Sunday. Balance and variety are the hallmarks of our music at St. John’s with hymns and songs old and new from a variety of traditions and composers.
Each of our Sunday services has a different character.
Our 10:30am service is a modern all-age worship, often led by a band. It includes a talk and on the 1st Sunday it concludes with Communion.
Our 6:30pm service is friendly and informal and takes place in the modern part of the church. Singing is led by guitar or piano.
